Welcome to MW Designs! I am so happy you are joining me for my first ever One Room Challenge. I have followed this challenge for years, and I can’t believe I am finally doing it! The room I have chosen to transform over the next 8 weeks is our spare bedroom. I have decided to turn it into a whimsical & elegant little girl’s room for my daughter. I have a plan in mind, but when I design, so many things change along the way! This challenge should be fun & entertaining..haha!
What is the One Room Challenge?
The One Room Challenge is a widely anticipated biannual event. It was started by Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home, and the media sponsor is Better Homes & Gardens. Each round, 20 featured designers will transform a space and document the process while sharing their sources and advice. Many guest participants will join the fun and also transform a room in 8 weeks. This challenge has so much interior design inspiration, ideas, and so much encouragement.
This room has always been the leftover room. I know many of you know exactly what I am talking about when I say that! It was the space that stored all of the items I didn’t love. It’s also the last room in our home with the awful cream color that covered every single wall in our house when we moved in. This is the only before pic I could find before we moved in!
I must have hated the old furniture in this space because I can’t find a single picture of this room before I sold the set. Here is the state it is in today! I have already purchased Madeleine’s new bed, but it is the only thing staying in this room.
Mood Board:
I always create a design board to visualize what a room will look like when completed. Of course, changes are made when the process starts, but the overall feel stays the same.
Below is the look I wanted for Madeleine’s new big girl room. It’s elegant with whimsical touches. I want it to be light & airy and a place she can cozy up in every night.
I have a long list of to-dos, but I am ready for this fun challenge! This room that usually has the door closed to it is about to get an overhaul. This is what to expect in the next 8 weeks.
List of to-dos:
- Sell some of Madeleine’s Nursery pieces
- Add decorative trim to walls
- Paint walls & ceiling Boothbay Gray by Benjamin Moore (Love this color)
- Paint small table & chairs
- Add overlay to closet doors
- Find & add new light fixture
- Make Curtains, pillows & seat cushion
- Hang & DIY swing
- Shop for Decorative items
- Style
- photograph
- reveal
I can’t wait for you all to follow along!
Don’t forget to visit the ORC page to see the other spaces being shared on this challenge. You will find so much creativity, inspiration, and entertainment. Enjoy!
