Welcome back! I hope everyone is getting into the holiday spirit like I have this year. Christmas is such a remarkable time of the year. We do so much to honor and remember Jesus’ birth with family and friend get togethers, donating to those in need, and decorating our homes and workplaces. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” -Luke 2:14
Each year I try to spiff up one of my old decorations. This year it is my wreath on my front door and the garland lining my stairs and loft. To my wreath I added some cuttings from a cedar tree, a burlap bow, and this adorable sign (I love wooden signs). I then continued with adding the burlap bows to the garland as well.

As we travel up to the loft, I have my “Santa Tree”. This tree is where I showcase all my festive santa and more rustic ornaments. This is also the tree that we keep our “Twelve Days of Christmas gifts”. This tradition was started by my dad and stepmom years ago when I was in high school; they continue this tradition with my kids to this day. I love watching the kids open a little something from them each day, then sharing the joy with them even though they are miles away.

Going back downstairs is my “Snow Tree”. This is our main tree, where I like to get a little sparkly. I trim this tree with snowmen and all ornaments that shimmer and shine. My favorite lights to use on my trees are clear, but many years ago I noticed with so much white I needed to add colored lights.

Our dining room is never used as a formal place to eat. At our house, it’s used for homework, grading papers, puzzles, eating, and board games to name a few. Due to all this activity, I like to keep it simple and easy to adapt for whatever purpose. The dining room contains my favorite tree the “Kids’ Tree”. This tree showcases all the wonderful ornaments they have made throughout the years. Isn’t their artwork adorable?

Finally, the half bath, kitchen, and laundry room are simply decorated with a few touches of Christmas.

Before you go I have a recipe to share. On the stove, I have a pot of homemade potpourri simmering. It’s such a simple and natural recipe that makes my entire home smell like the holidays.
- 1 apple, quartered
- The peel of one orange
- 15 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Put these ingredients in a medium sized pot and cover with water. Simmer on low on the stove. Add water as needed.
I hope you have all enjoyed the Christmas Lights at the Hites’. Remember the reason for the season. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 Next up on the tour is Sharon’s Home on Monday. She invites us into her adorable home and shares with us a few of her favorite things.
