Welcome to the Farmhouse on Chestnut!
Hello, I’m Cindy, and I’m excited to take you on a tour of our Fall Home in Missouri! You may remember our home from last year’s Christmas tour HERE on Diamonds or Pearls! If I’m not decorating our house, I would be at school, where I’ve been a 3rd-grade teacher for the last 16 years. My husband Kevin and I, along with our little Lhasa Apso, Princess have lived here for twelve years this month. I always loved this house growing up and wanting so badly to see the inside. I remember as a little girl, this house belonging to Dr. Lockhart, a dentist here in town. As an adult, every time I would drive by this house I would think maybe one day I would live there. I was so excited the day we signed the papers to our forever home!
When did you know you loved interior decorating?
I’ve always loved decorating our home, but I believe in the last two years it has become a little more than just putting a few things out for the holidays. I’ve always loved to switch things up a bit, but we don’t have much room to move furniture around. So, I have found that I can change a room up by just changing out the decor, the small things. I do that by switching out the decor for each season and at Christmas.
What is your go-to color for decorating?
My go-to color for decorating is neutrals. I use them as my foundation to then play off different colors. All of the walls in my house are white, except for the bedrooms. The bedrooms are painted different tones of light gray. With neutral furniture, this leaves it open to throw any color out there to decorate with. For winter, I’ve used blues and whites with wood accents. I’ve gathered pink and peach items together at the beginning of spring, using whites with them to brighten the space. Summer, I filled our home with different colors of greens and touches of yellow. Now, for fall I am bringing out the yellows, oranges, greens and creamy whites by using pumpkins and different floral.
What do you love most about your home?
Wow, there are so many things! But, the one thing I love about our home is it’s comfortable and cozy. My favorite time is in the winter, snow on the ground, and a big fire roaring in the fireplace. It reminds me of my grandparent’s farmhouse. Another thing I love about my home is the uniqueness of it. It was built in 1926 and has those little features that make it stand out like the built-in hutch in the kitchen. But then there’s a modern twist in the dining room. Shiplap! Who doesn’t love a shiplapped wall?
What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to decorating?
One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see wall decor hung too high on the wall! When I see someone has done that, I’m rearranging in my head how it should be. I also don’t like rooms with too much furniture. It makes me feel claustrophobic!
Thank you, Cindy, for opening up your home, letting us peek inside, and allowing us to see all of your beautiful Fall decorations.
