Entryway Makeover: Before & After
Hello All! During a break from the “Great American Roadtrip” and on an extended stopover in our Missouri hometown, I redecorated my mother’s entryway. It’s been a little while since I wrote a decor post and I can’t wait to get back to what I love!
Before
An entryway is the first impression someone gets as soon as they enter your home. While it serves a very necessary function, it should also be tastefully decorated with functional pieces and not too cluttered.
This before picture shows that something was definitely lacking. There was no “pop” or statement when you walked in. With just a few fantastic pieces, the room is transformed from blah to stunning while retaining its functionality.
…and the result.
I love how this entryway turned out and, even though it is simple, it still makes a big statement. With the space being a walkthrough to get to the other rooms of the home, it needed to be uncluttered, so I just incorporated a few pieces.
The light fixture is like a piece of jewelry hanging from the ceiling. I love that it is a large chandelier with a delicate textured look. At nighttime, the reflection of the chandelier’s light bounces around on the floor and walls which creates dimension to the space.
This amazing houndstooth rug (similar here and here) not only protects the wood floors from regular everyday traffic but the design is classic and fun.
The Pottery Barn Bench (found here) is long, narrow, and streamlined. It minimizes the clutter but also is quite practical for guests to remove their shoes. (wink! wink!)
The matching, neutral pictures found at a local store add height and fill up this large wall without being too busy.
With just a few well-placed pieces, some paint, and a unique light fixture, the space is transformed, giving a positive and welcoming impression to all who enter.
I will also be sharing my move from Hawaii to Missouri and my Great American Roadtrip series on the blog soon. Be sure to sign up for our weekly mail outs below, so you don’t miss a single post.

I had the pleasure of seeing this space in person last week and loved the large framed prints with no glass. They were perfect! Once again it had that “MW Design” touch 🙂 Look forward to seeing more of the blog. I know you have been doing a lot of traveling with your move to VA. How exciting!

Thank you so much, Paula! Being back in VA gives me so much inspiration for my new home and more future posts.

Beautiful! It doesn’t even look like the same entry way.

Thank you, Sheryl! It is amazing what paint and light fixtures will do for a space.
