Collecting for a Gallery Wall
There is always that one wall in everyone’s home that is lacking the attention it deserves. I believe a gallery wall is a perfect solution to jazz up that space! It will grow with you and your memories and will be your unique story.
The Hunt for the Perfect Collection
I collect pictures on our travels and in our local hunts. No matter where I am, I always search for that black and white photo that catches my eye.
You never know where inspiration will strike and I found some of my favorites in antique stores, NYC street vendors, and even in local home retail stores.
I prefer black and white photos because it keeps consistency and provides a clean, simple look.
My favorite pictures are the ones I chose to display and are a mix of antiques, fox hunting, and pencil drawings of places where we lived or visited. Every photo I display has a great story and memory from the trip I took to search for it.
One of my favorites is a pencil drawing of the Biltmore by Shane Kindschi.
Ways to Display your Collection
Accumulating prints can be fun, and my #1 tip for getting started is to pick two large prints that can act as the anchor of the wall. There are limitless possibilities to build out from your anchor to create your story.
Some Examples are blending old and new, like modern art in antique frames, or colors, like subdued artwork in bright gold frames, will add character and depth to the wall.
The placement also adds to the feel. The same pictures will create a completely different look if they are hung symmetrically and structured, or free-flowing based on your own style.
With all these options, the wall becomes your own work of art! Let your wall tell your story, have fun with it, and be creative! If you have trouble getting started, there are so many places to look for inspiration: Pinterest, art galleries, local artists, antique stores, and Instagram are just a few.
Do you have any walls in your home needing that extra attention? I would love to know if you have any tips or ideas for a gallery wall and what inspires you!
