Twelve Days of Christmas Tour
Decorating for Christmas always seems like a daunting task, but when you start opening boxes of all your old Christmas goodies, it quickly changes your mood. I love decorating for Christmas, and I get it honest. My Mom, Lisa Brenneke is also on the tour, and when you see her house, you will understand where my love for Christmas & “junk” comes from! My house looks sort of like an old red schoolhouse, and I love everything that’s “old school,” I don’t really think that’s a decorating style, but that’s what I’m going to call it!
Laying in front of the fireplace to watch Christmas movies is a must! Also, a good game of poker on Christmas Eve, just the sound of cards shuffling or coins hitting the table can bring back so many memories!
This is my favorite seat in the house and I’m not talking about the sled!
I just picked up this old picture & frame last weekend at an antique store for $15, had to have it!!!
When I was little, my dad taught me how to make these handmade ornaments called German Bells, and I have made one every year since and now I get to do that with my kids.
My table is definitely not fancy. I like to mix old with new by stacking some Fire King with Fiesta Ware and a side of vintage pewter, why not?!?!
Christmas traditions are not just things to me, but it’s about the smells and sounds during all of the hustle and bustle too. I love baking the same favorite cookies with Mom every year and putting them in her vintage cookie tins — the smell of fresh Sassafras tea on the stove that the boys dug up off the farm, my grandmas honey rum ham and homemade bread baking in the oven.
MMmmm…Hot poppyseed bread, out of the oven!
A few of my favorite things…Old handwritten recipes, my kids’ artwork and this big roll of butcher paper. I like to hang all of my Christmas cards here as they come in the mail.
Christmas in Dixie is a song from one of my favorite Christmas albums, Alabama. Elvis’ Christmas album is also a favorite, and I have played both one too many times!.
The anticipation of Christmas morning when the kids’ eyes light up is the best gift you can get! Somehow I can’t get over that these years won’t last forever so, excuse me while I go search for those old Cookie tins (and maybe some of Mamaws leftover rum!!)
I honestly cannot choose just one favorite holiday tradition; I have so many! Of course at the top of my list is about spending time with loved ones, some that we see often, some not often enough, and some we think about through old memories.

Tomorrow on the “Twelve Days of Christmas” tour is Francis Fick from VA. Francis says Christmas is by far her favorite holiday to decorate, and this year she wanted to bring all the coziness inside. Her home has 4 Christmas trees and she even sprinkled a little Christmas in each of her children’s rooms. Touring her home will definitely get you into the holiday spirit.
