2017 Deck the Halls Christmas Tour: Kimberly’s Home

Hello and welcome, my name is Kim and I am honored to be a part of the 2017 Deck the Halls Christmas Tour.  My favorite time of the year is decorating for Christmas. I have so many special memories around this time of the year. In our household, it is tradition to kick off the Christmas season by sipping on some hot cocoa and turning up the Christmas music as the decorating begins.

As I take you on my home tour, you will notice a mixture of both traditional and classic styles. I really enjoy using fresh-cut greenery, Christmas pillows, furry throws, a blend of prints and textures, as well as natural elements with a touch of sparkle and elegance. My method is to keep things simple, easy and doable by incorporating Christmas elements that bring me joy to my existing decor.

 

As you walk into the front entry of my home you are welcomed with a classic pencil tree nestled at the bottom of the staircase. This tree is adorned with elegant shades of champagne, cream, white, black, and hints of mint green and antique mercury. This is my first year placing a tree in the front entrance and I love how it is visible from nearly every room, especially walking down the stairs.

To the right of the front entry is my piano/study. With the existing dark walls, black piano and bold striped curtains, I decided to keep this room simple by adding Christmas trimmings to the existing décor. I enjoy the shimmer and warmth of the gold accents against the black and cream color scheme. One of my favorite additions to this room for this season is the cream faux fur rug layered on the existing area rug and the ͞A Savior is Born͟ throw pillow.

In the living area, I go all out with traditional red. The blend of textures and prints are appealing to me. In my tree, you will notice a mixture of plaids, black & white stripes, burlap, and hints of sparkly mint green twigs, all topped with a Frosty the Snowman hat. The pop of traditional Christmas colors in this room (particularly the red, white and green M&M’s) are definitely a mood booster.

I love the elegance of fresh-cut foliage on my mantels. Each year I ask my hubby what his favorite part of our Christmas decorations are, and this year the mantels are a hit with him. The pleasant aroma and appearance of the fresh-cut foliage truly foster a holiday atmosphere. I used metal wire clippers to cut several branches from garland (Lowes or Home Depot). This allows me to get the desired length and easily position the branches within existing decor with ease.

I kept my kitchen fresh and simple with the colors of green, black, cream and a dash of light gold. The natural elements of the washed grey wood accents along with the pop of mercury silver really stand out against the evergreens. The iced pine shimmers in the sunlight and I enjoy lighting the candles in the evening to set a warm and cozy atmosphere.

My inspiration for the guest bedroom was centered on a jolly Santa Clause throw pillow I found in bright retro colors. I simply added lights and garland over the headboard; placed a colorful throw blanket over the end of the bed; and topped with a wood tray displaying a few sweet Christmas accents. I put a bronze metal reindeer on the table in front of the bed and added Christmas greenery to existing decor. These easy and doable touches make this room fun and inviting for our guests.

This room has a more rustic feel with black & cream accents. TJ Maxx had an adorable antler picture of which I couldn’t resist. The black & white buffalo checked antlers compliment the flocked pencil tree adorned with the xoxo ribbon. In the window seat, I placed a wood tray topped with an oversized glass vase with a blend of greenery and a birch branch extending out the top. To add an element of Christmas, I placed mini Christmas lights in the bottom of the vase and tied a black and cream ribbon around the top of the vase to coordinate with the other décor.

Once all the decorations are in place, I like to add a finishing touch by filling my home with warm and cozy scents. I love the mixture of Warm Cinnamon and Hot Toddy Aroma Crystals as well as Grey Flannel by Chesapeake Bay Candle, and Welcome Home by Milkhouse Candles.

Tomorrow on the tour Lauren King will be welcoming us into her home. Her house is like walking in a Pottery Barn magazine! She has a love for plaids, tartan, and checks. It is a must see!
