Week 2 & 3 have been a slow start to the ORC. I’m still waiting on many supplies and have been at a standstill until I receive them. So we will have to kick it into high gear in the next couple of weeks.
So far, I have emptied the room, the carpet is out, and it is truly a blank slate to get started on this big makeover.

What is the ORC?
The One Room Challenge is a widely anticipated biannual event. It was started by Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home, and the media sponsor is @apartmenttherapy. Each round, 20 featured designers will transform a space and document the process while sharing their sources and advice. Rug Change from original plan
Loloi has such gorgeous rugs, and I found so many I could use in this space. One of my favorites was from the Chris love Julia Polly Collection. It’s called Slate Ivory, and I love the modern pattern and neutral colors. I think this rug could work with many decor styles, and this gridded rug is going to be the perfect amount of pattern. Isn’t it beautiful!
This one is on backorder until June, but it’s so fabulous I’m willing to wait! In the meantime, I will have to find a good filler and probably use the one I have on the mood board.
- Minted – It was tough to narrow photos down from minted. I originally wanted to go with abstract art for a modern touch but decided on landscape and animal photography. The landscape reminds me of some of our favorite places we have traveled, and the animal print reminds me of our trips out west. They have so many amazing & unique options.
- Natural Tree-stump Side Table – This adds the little bit of rustic I was wanting in this space.
- Black/Beige Pillow Cover – This yarn-dyed pillow has the perfect colors, design, and a masculine feel.
- Drafting Table – We are using an antique drafting table given to us by a family friend to add character. It will be the perfect old piece to add instant charm. I have sourced a beautiful drafting table I found that would look just as amazing.
- Wood tripod floor lamp – The wood tripod lamp has such a unique look to it. I think it belongs in a masculine den.
- Curvilinear Mid-Century Chandelier, 3 Light, Dark Bronze, Antique Brass – The perfect modern touch!
- Winston Table – The mid-century modern table looks perfect beside the antique pieces.
- Fox Head Oil Painting – I have wanted to use this piece in some room in my home for a while now. It adds the perfect VA touch I like to add in all of my spaces.
- Modern Barrel Swivel Chair – The contemporary curve and swivel base are what I needed in this space. The curve mimics the curve I plan to add to the bookcase. Its such a chic and affordable chair.
- Polly Hand Tufted Slate & Ivory Rug – This gridded design with neutral colors adds the perfect pattern to this space without being too busy.
- Aruba Blackout Curtain Panel – Even though the window is small in this space, I wanted to soften up the room with some curtain panels. Doing this will add height and cozy it up a little. These are also beautiful curtains for a great price.
The blend of all of these pieces will result in a rustic, masculine, and modern study!
I hope you check back next week when we start making progress in this space!
