Italian Meat Sauce
This delicious and easy Italian Meat Sauce is a favorite of mine and a recipe I make often. My mother-in-law shared this with me years ago, and I haven’t bought a canned sauce since. It is thick, hearty, and has a fantastic flavor. You could make it early morning and let it simmer all day! I always think the longer the tomatoes cook, the better the sauce.
It is also a perfect recipe to make ahead if you are going to be entertaining and it is just as great warmed up for those slide nights! (My Favorite night!)

Would also be great to add sausage too!
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 Ib ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 30-oz can tomatoes, chopped
- 1 15-oz can tomatoes, chopped
- 1 6-oz can tomato paste
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or about 2 T of dried
- 1 T brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano, crushed
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
- Couple Bay Leaves
Instructions
- In dutch oven combine onion, meat, and garlic; cook until meat is browned and onion is tender.Skim off excess fat. Add remaining ingredients except spaghetti and cheese, add 2 cups water. Simmer uncovered 3 hours or until sauce is thick; stir occasionally. Remove bay leaves. Serve over hot spaghetti. Enjoy!
