Traditional with a modern twist, cozy, masculine, and feminine are a few words to describe my living room space.
Living Room Refresh With An Accent Wall
For some reason, this particular room never entirely came together for me in my new home. It lacked personality and the cozy factor I like to go for in all of my rooms.
Before:
We have been fixing up our entryway due to a water leak (reveal soon), so I have literally been painting everything in our home. One evening I decided to extend the entryway paint into our living room, but it still lacked for me!
Accent Wall
If you had asked me my opinion on accent walls a few years ago, I would have told you not to do one! I honestly could not stand them! Not sure why?! They just never appealed to me visually!
I wanted this room to have some pop without having to replace my furniture in it. When helping my mother with her basement design, we chose the color Cyberspace by Sherwin Williams after seeing it in numerous homes on a beautiful home tour in Clifton, Virginia. I decided that I had to use this color somewhere inside my own home.
I thought an accent wall could be interesting and this color would definitely cozy this space up!

My taste is constantly changing, and I’m always up for trying new design ideas. So, I just went for it and let me tell you; I LOVE IT! It was the pop that this room needed and gave it the warmth that it was lacking.
I will remind myself of the saying, “never say never,” the next time someone asks me a design question.
The most important thing about your home is to make it reflect you. If you want some crazy color on your wall, I say go for it! It is such an easy fix if you don’t end up liking it.
Decorating is a process! Just keep layering the things you love, and your room will slowly come together. You may just need to add an accent wall!!!
I hope you enjoyed my living room refresh. I have the cutest plaid rug arriving for this space today, and I’m so excited about it!

Your accent wall looks wonderful, Michelle. Your revelation about how you used to break about them had me chuckling, mostly because I have always had an accent wall in most rooms of our home. There are so many beautiful ways to make a place just right for those who inhabit the space and different things appeal to different people. Welcome to the accent wall side! ?

Thank you, MaryKay! I probably should have specified in my post that it was mostly the red accent walls..haha! I am happy to finally be a part of the accent wall clan and I’m sure your home looks beautiful!

I think it looks so nice and what a difference! Love the color.

Thank you so much, Amy! I have always been a fan of black in every room, but I am loving all of these new darker shades I am discovering.

Love the color! What did you use on the other walls?
Michelle Whitener says
Thank you, Alyona! I should have mentioned this in my post, but I used Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams on the other walls and entryway.

This made your living room so cozy and inviting. The color pulls you into the room. I have to admit I have never been a fan of accent walls but this certainly changes my mind 🙂 I can relate to the fact that my style is constantly changing as you stated. I think my problem is I see the beauty in too many things! Again, you did a beautiful job pulling this room together!

Thank you so much, Paula. I can’t believe how much I am loving this accent wall! I wouldn’t want one in every room, but it definitely added the cozy factor that this room was missing.
