From the heart of a suburban neighborhood in Virginia, we welcome you to our Woodlands Wonderland.
– Nils & Lisa
Entryway
Living Room
This room both sets the stage for our Woodlands Wonderland and showcases some ornaments we have collected since childhood.
The winter animals add enchantment and a Narnia-like feel.
The windows and table are layered with various evergreens from around our property.
The flocked tree stands embellished with White House ornaments (Lisa’s) and Georg Jensen gems that Nils was gifted each year.
Family Room
This is the heart of our home for our four girls, Westie and us. December evenings are spent surrounded by a glow from the 16-foot trimmed tree, sugar cookie scented candles, and the crackling fire.
Kitchen
Half Bath
Dining Room
With just its twice a year reveal, the table is set for Christmas dinner, with personalized and custom-made menus.
Office
Daughter’s Bedroom
This quaint Christmas bedroom anxiously awaits to warmly provide Christmas cheer for one of our two daughters who will soon be home from college.
Basement
As you venture downstairs, our home transforms before you into a Throwback Cabin Christmas.
Colorful lights fill the room and highlight crocheted ornaments, vintage signs and pillows, and tinsel garland and icicles.
Nutcrackers tell a story of Lisa’s childhood (golf, violin, Shakespeare, teacher…) that were received each Christmas from her mother.
Last but not least, is the custom-built and decorated, American Doll Home.
Here, Christmas is decked out in miniature style from the trimmed tree and carefully wrapped presents, to the stockings hung by the bookshelves with care.
Lisa’s favorite tradition is the ugly sweater cookie contests & white elephant gift exchanges with family & friends.
Nils’ favorite tradition is having Risalamande. It’s a traditional dessert his Danish mother makes each Christmas that has an almond hidden inside. Whoever gets the almond, tricks the others and will have good luck in the new year. They also win a prize.
Wishing you and yours a comfy, cozy Christmas!
