2019 Winter Wonderland Tour: Kate’s Home

Hi, my name is Kate Cotton and welcome to our home. After a very long year of building our dream home, we finally moved in at the end of July. I have had so much fun designing and decorating, so when I knew the Christmas tour was coming around, I didn’t think twice about jumping on board.

Winter Wonderland Home Tour

We love decorating for Christmas super early because we love the warm and cozy feel of the lights twinkling from the Christmas trees, and the smell of Christmas pine throughout the house.

Entryway

I don’t think I have a specific theme when it comes to decorating for Christmas, however I tend to gravitate towards any and everything gold. I’m sure you can see my obsession for gold as it is pretty much the staple color throughout my house; from the backsplash and lights in the kitchen to the faucets in the bathroom.

Living Room

With the taller ceilings in our new home meant the need for a bigger tree. This definitely came with its challenges for me, especially since my recent hip replacement inhibited me from climbing a ladder. I was so very thankful for my friend Austin Crocker who came to my rescue!

My father Bruce passed this year and he was so excited about our new home. As much as I have enjoyed decorating and getting our home ready for the holidays, there is still a piece missing.

I started collecting Santa Claus figurines a few years ago, which you will see placed throughout the house. I absolutely love every one of them and look forward to continuing to collect them so I can one day pass them on to my daughter.

Kitchen

One of my favorite Christmas traditions would be our Christmas Eve seafood boil. We gather with friends and family for a treat of all you can eat shrimp and crab legs. The kitchen was designed to accommodate the pickers and the samplers that tend to overrun the kitchen. A large island is a perfect place for them to gather without disturbing the cook.

I love the ambiance of the Christmas lights.

I am excited to experience our first Christmas in our new home. I have so many magical memories of Christmas. The corner the tree was in, the garland over the doorway that seemed to lose a couple of lights each year, and the homemade decorations that although quite gaudy, decorating wasn’t complete without them. I can only hope that my daughter grows up with those same memories, and allow this house to become the home she has magical memories in.

Tomorrow on the Winter Wonderland Home Tour is Tami from Farmington, MO. Tami’s home was built in 1865 and is full of so much charm & character. You can instantly feel the love that she has poured into her home. Around the holidays, you will smell baklava baking, meet Parson Brown, and get to enjoy looking at all of her ornaments she has made through the years with friends and family.
