Welcome to the farm! I’m Chris and I live in Enon Valley, a small farming community in western Pennsylvania. First, a little bit about our farm. My husband grew up working on his Pappy’s farm and we always thought we would like a farm but really weren’t pursuing one. A friend of ours told us about a 50-acre farm he knew would be going up for sale. It was not on the market yet when we looked at it. We knew it was an opportunity that God had placed in our laps and 20 years later, here we are. We feel so blessed to live where we do. We raised two boys here and now our two granddaughters love to

It has become our favorite place from drinking our coffee as the sun rises, to sitting on the porch swing in the afternoon to catch a cool breeze, to watching the lightning bugs light up over the field.
How to describe my style…hmmmm? I would say it’s vintage, antique, rusty, repurposed! Is that a thing?
I like to use things I’ve found at flea markets, yard sales, thrift shops, and anywhere else I find “treasures.” I mix old with new to make my spaces homey. Red, white, and blue is used to decorate my front porch all summer. Also, old quilts and new pillows go well together.
A lot of my choices are usually farm-related (chicken waterer, old water pump, old wheels, and my favorite “rusty things.”)
When you visit, Daisy, our faithful old Red Heeler or our cute kitten Georgie may greet you.
Georgie finds the craziest places to sleep.
Now, a little bit about me. I’m a Grammy to two sweet little girls and two fun pups. I’m a barista at Mohawk Coffee House and love all things coffee.
My morning starts with God’s word, great coffee, and bird watching
I like old chairs, maybe a bit too much, to use as seating or as a place to put flowers.
Speaking of flowers, begonias are fast becoming one of my favorites. They are so versatile. Can you tell what color I like?
Ferns are also a great plant. They add a pop of green and can grow in shady places.
Our granddaughters giggle at the little fairy garden we made out of pieces of two old birdbaths.
I’m a weather bug, so watching storms roll in is one of my favorite things to see from the front porch.
Another space we enjoy is the old corn crib we turned into a “gazebo.” It sits next to our backfield behind our house.
To make the trip to the gazebo enjoyable, we made a walkway out of large flat stones that were part of an old sidewalk. I lined it with old watering cans and coal buckets. I used old pieces of fencing as a backdrop.
We have comfy seating in the gazebo as well as fun Minnie Mouse seating for our granddaughters. There’s a great view of our oats field this year. Every time I see this field, I think of the line “for amber waves of grain.” That’s exactly what it looks like.
We’ve hung old farm implements and tools on the inside and placed them around the outside too
We also had to tear down an old milk house that was crumbling. I saved this window and door. I knew I would use them someday.
Some of the items were passed down from my husband’s family; the others we have found and collected.
With my husband’s full-time job as a lineman for the electric company and farm work, we don’t get to entertain as much as we’d like. But evenings around the fire are what we enjoy the most. Nothing is much better than a good cup of coffee, a roaring fire, and a beautiful view. That’s our way of entertaining. We’ve made our spaces with intention to take in the beauty that’s all around our farm.
Thanks for stopping by the farm and thank you, Michelle, for asking me to be part of the summer tour. It’s been great showing everyone around.

I know Chris Airsman, she just lives a couple miles from me, beautiful place she has. I was wondering, do you do winter house tours too? And do you just do old homes? Thank you

Hello Saundra,
Chris does have a beautiful home! I was so lucky to showcase it on my blog.
I do two tours a year on the blog; one Christmas and one summer tour. You can view the past tours at the top of the blog under the tours tab. I take nominations a few months before each tour begins and love to showcase all styles and sizes of homes.

Chris, I love your home. The outdoor space reminds me so much growing up on my grandparents farm! You have gave me so much inspriation for my yard! I love the wrap around porch and how you used so many pieces from the farm! The gazebo corn crib is may favorite! I’m now on the hunt for a corn corb! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Chris Arisman says
Thanks Cindy. The possibilities are endless with an old corn crib. It came from a neighboring farm. It was a real trick getting it moved to our place. We actually bought three of them. One was turned into a chicken coop.
